So welcome to my mothers day. Dreams of a helpful child and caring husband, not in my house!
Let's see, my six year old daughter woke up at 4.50am too excited to sleep anymore and bounces into my bed making sure I am awake.
When I tactfully tell her it's not even 6.00 and to go and find something to do, she grumpily decides
to watch television for a short while while I go back to sleep. At first, a great idea until
the cable box decides not to work. Trying to ignore the whinging, I finally give in and trudge downstairs muttering under my breath. After several minutes of standoff It finally splutters into life and I head back to bed.
So, finally a quiet child and I drift off back to sleep, until that it is I am awoken by an almighty thump thanks to my cat. He then starts his 'feed me' routine. I try to ignore him and he settles down on my legs for a minute then decides enough is enough. A tentative paw investigates the possibility of getting any food by scratching my face and trying to sit on my head.
Looking at the clock it is now.. only 5.25am. I get up feed the cat head back to bed again.
Of course by now my daughter is raring to go and starts demanding breakfast.
All thoughts of being brought breakfast in bed are rapidly fading, followed by the day of rest and relaxation I had planned. I make it quite clear there will be no breakfast until at least 6.30am.
Finally a bit of peace. 6.30am came all to soon and the whining begins again. I am so hungry I need breakfast. By this point I give up, head into the kitchen only to be met with a huge pile of washing up still left from yesterday. My husband promised it would be done last night and a pile of dirty washing that was also supposed to have been done last night. I stare at it and leave it. No, not today my day off.
My daughter bounds into the kitchen with my present. As she helps to rip off the paper It's a box of my favourite chocolates.
Ok, so it's early and really not the best thing for breakfast but, who cares. We sit down on the kitchen floor amongst the piles of washing, cuddled up to next each other, then dive in and help ourselves.
